Lake Jackson Fishing Report January 2006

Jackson: Level: Down 3.5 feet and will begin to come back up on April 1. Temp: Low 40s. Clarity: Clear at Berry’s. Yellow and South Rivers are muddy.

Bass: Good. Mike Cleveland won the pot tournament at Berry’s on December 17. “It was mediocre, people had to run all over the lake to find fish,” said Bobby Berry. Mike won the tournament with over 12 pounds. “I was cranking rocks with a homemade flat bait in two to five feet of water,” said Mike. “January fishing is about the same. Fish the west banks in the morning and the east ones in the afternoon.” Jigging spoons will produce fish on the south end on long rocky points.

Crappie: Fair. Bobby Berry said that fluctuating water levels shut the crappie bite down. “The few folks catching fish are bringing in small ones,” said Bobby. “In January you’ll be able to catch some fish pitching jigs at bridge pilings.” Try the Hwy 212 and Tussahaw Creek bridges. You can also pick up some fish slow-trolling jigs. Try the S-curves in the Alcovy above Berry’s. Also troll the Alcovy south from the Hwy 212 bridge toward Connelly Cove. Another place to troll is under the powerline going toward the confluence of the Yellow and South rivers.
