Lake Jackson Fishing Report – September 2019

Jackson: Level: Full. Temp: High 80s to low 90s. Clarity: Slightly stained to clear.

Bass: Tournament angler Brian Lee reports, “Bass are still sluggish as the dog days of summer are nearing an end. Start your morning off fishing shallow structure near deep water, and throw a Pop-R, a 1/2-oz. white buzzbait or a Spook. Once the sun is up, concentrate on long points and deep docks. Flip docks near the river channel with a watermelon Trick Worm on a Davis Bait 3/16-oz. shaky head. You can also fish a Texas-rigged u-tail worm. Green pumpkin dipped in JJ’s Magic chartreuse will give the fish a reason to hold on to the bait a few seconds longer. Also, a 1/2-oz. Dirty Jig in green pumpkin/orange around docks will produce a few fish. Concentrate on posts and brush as you fish the docks. Fishing points with a C-rig Trick Worm or an A-rig will produce best if you decide to fish points over the docks. If you want to fish offshore humps and deep brush, a spoon or drop shot will be your ticket. Remember the bass are still not wanting to chase a bait far, so slowing down will help increase the bites. As fall nears, the bite will get better as shad start migrating to the pockets, and the bass will be more apt to chase baits down. I’d like to mention that we lost a true legend last month. Andy Cannon was a very well-respected angler and will be missed deeply around the docks and weigh-ins by many folks and family. Please send prayers up for his wife and family as they are still grieving of the passing of their loved one. Mr. Andy, you will always be missed by your fishing family and will be missed by many of the young anglers. R.I.P and keep those lines tight and watch over us… until we meet again.”
