It’s great to see a notable sports group like the Atlanta Falcons taking a day and thanking those soldiers who have been wounded in military duty in Iraq and Afghanistan.
On June 12, the Falcons hosted the “5th Annual Fishing with the Falcons” event on Lake Lanier. They had 26 boats loaded down with military veterans who had been wounded in the line of duty. In addition to having a veteran aboard each boat, a guide and two Falcons players, coaches or cheerleaders rode along.
“It was such an honor to be a part of the Fishing with the Falcons event,” said Mike Harris, of Watkinsville, who captained one of the boats. “When Coach Mike Smith spoke emotionally about what the event meant to him and the Falcons players, it gave everyone a real sense of the importance of recognizing the many sacrifices that our men and women in the military have made for our country. The whole Falcons organization truly epitomized the idea of giving back with this event.”
Prizes were awarded for most fish, largest striper, largest spotted bass and the least fish caught.
