Lake Jackson Fishing Report July 2018

GON Staff | June 28, 2018

Jackson: Level: Full. Temp: High 80s. Clarity: Clear to slightly stained.

Bass: Tournament angler Keith Dawkins reports, “The fish have moved into summer patterns on Jackson. For main-lake fishing, start your morning fishing on flats and banks with seawalls or blowdowns. Use a 1/2-oz. white buzzbait or a Pop-R. Once the sun comes up, concentrate on deep docks, preferably with lots of posts, or blowdowns near deep water. Texas rigged 6-inch Zoom lizards in watermelon or Trick Worms flipped under docks and deep blowdowns work well for largemouth and spots. If they are finicky, try a straight-tail finesse worm or a 4-inch lizard on a light, 1/8-oz. Texas rig. Make multiple casts to each dock or tree. If you catch one, make sure and cast back to the same area, especially with spots as there may be a school. For deeper fishing, concentrate on humps and points in 10 to 20 feet of water, depending on the day. Make use of your electronics to locate the structure and fish. DD22 crankbaits and Carolina-rigged Zoom lizards are great to cover a lot of deep water and locate the fish. Once you find a good brushpile, finesse worms and 4-inch Zoom lizards fished vertically on drop shots can produce numbers if you find a school on your sonar. Finally, if you don’t want to fight the ski boats and jet skis, head up the South or Yellow rivers. The water is always a little cooler with the current, and it is certainly more peaceful. Flip the numerous blowdowns with Texas rigs or a jig/craw combo. I also like to bounce a square-billed crankbait off the tree limbs, and a buzzbait will cover a lot of water up in the river. If you do go in the rivers, please be aware of submerged logs and possible rocks.”
