Lake Blackshear Fishing Report – May 2025

GON Staff | April 30, 2025

Blackshear: Level: Full at 237. Temp: 72 degrees. Clarity: Muddy on the main lake, stained in the creeks.

Bass: Tournament angler Chris Gray reports, “The bass have all spawned and are feeding really well right now. Try to locate a shad spawn first thing in the morning on rip-rap, seawalls and grass. Look for shad flickering on the surface near hard cover. I have a lot of success targeting these fish with a Rebel Pop-R, a white Spro popping frog and a white buzzbait. Try all three baits to see which one they are hitting the best. After the sun gets up, focus on cypress trees in a little deeper water. If you can find an isolated tree in 5 to 6 feet of water, do not pass it up. Use a Texas-rigged black-and-blue creature bait. My favorite is a Missile Baits D Bomb in bruiser flash. Wait for it to go to the bottom, and then wait for the thump. Trees have been my most consistent pattern lately.”

Crappie: Cory Singletary, with C&S Guide Service, reports, “May is probably one of my most favorite times to catch crappie. They are going to be tight to structure, brushpiles, timber and stumps. They will be schooled back up with some schools as big as 100 fish on one brushpile! They will be hungry looking to fill back up after laying out. ATX Lure Company and Litewire Hooks are my go-to bait and hooks. Both can be bought at Flint River Outdoors on the lake.”
