Lake Blackshear Fishing Report – December 2024

GON Staff | November 28, 2024

Blackshear: Level: 4.5 feet below 237. Temp: 67 degrees. Clarity: Muddy in the river channel and stained everywhere else.

Bass: Tournament angler Chris Gray reports, “Lake Blackshear is currently drawn down about 6 feet so homeowners around the lake can repair their docks, seawalls and boat slips. The lake should start filling back up around mid December. It’s very hard to get back into any of the sloughs and creeks right now. With all of the stumps and trees in the lake, please make sure to stay in the channel when running at speed, especially above the 280 bridge. Our first really cold snap of this fall is about to hit as I’m typing this, which should turn the fish off for a week or so. I expect the water temperature to fall close to 10 degrees. The bass will still be following baitfish, but they’ll be less eager to bite with the colder temperatures. If you have good electronics, finding suspended fish over brushpiles will be a good pattern. You can target these fish with a shad-colored jerkbait or a crankbait, like a Strike King 3XD. Once the water comes back up, the baitfish should move back into the coves again, with the bass following. Depending on how warm or cold the rest of the month is, you should be able to catch fish up shallow on squarebill crankbaits and spinnerbaits. I always keep some type of dark-colored jig or soft plastic tied on for pitching around docks and cypress trees. Cover lots of water until you find a fish that feels like eating. I expect the bite to be kind of tough. Good luck!”
