A Proud GON Moment
Dear GON,
My son caught a fish during his fall break, and he is convinced he has a county and possibly a state record. He would be tickled if his picture was published in the next issue of the GON magazine.
I must say I am impressed with him this week, as he has gone through great lengths on his own reaching out to GON to speak with representatives about his catch and to get his photo published. Interestingly, he did all this while I was at work and had no idea he was calling y’all, lol. I can only imagine what the folks were thinking when they discovered it was a kid they were talking to.
Rylan is a die-hard fisherman and really looks up to the folks and articles y’all publish. In 2024, when most kids are addicted to their video games or social media, he’d rather read your magazine and head to the water for some fishing!
It’s a proud mama moment!

Buck Fever Has Dad Reaching For Flex Tape
Dear GON,
My son, JD Dailey, got his first compound bow this year and has been working on his shooting accuracy for his first deer kill this season in Henry County. Well, he finally got the chance he was looking for on Saturday, Sept. 28. A doe came in at 20 yards. He said he did everything just like he had practiced, but unfortunately, he didn’t take into consideration his nerves and the shakes he was going to have when it came time to pull the bow back and get that pin lined up just perfect. Needless to say, we’re going to need more practice and some Flex Tape for the feeder.
Thanks for allowing me to share my son’s story with you guys. Love the magazine and all the helpful information you guys provide in it.
Mike Dailey, Henry County
Editor’s Note: We checked with Mike to make sure his son would be OK with the letter and photo running and he said, “My son is completely OK if you guys want to publish the story. He finds the story comical himself. I think it’s a story that some people could probably relate to.”
