Lake Blackshear Fishing Report – August 2024

Blackshear: Level: Full at 237. Temp: 85-87 degrees. Clarity: Stained due to recent rainfall.

Bass: Tournament angler Chris Gray reports, “Bass fishing has been overly tough lately. It’s been extremely hot, and several recent mayfly hatches have the fish full and lethargic. If you can find a mayfly hatch at the right time, some fish can be caught on topwater first thing in the morning. I like a popping-style frog or walking bait, something that might imitate a bream feeding on the mayflies. Skip your topwater bait under cypress trees or any bushes hanging over the water. You can also listen for bream eating the mayflies off the top of the water. After the sun gets up, focus on offshore ledges and brushpiles in 10 to 20 feet of water. I like a black Zoom Ol’ Monster worm to drag around the bottom with a 3/16- or 1/4-oz. weight Texas rigged. Later in the month, start looking for schooling fish around the mouths of coves. Target these fish with a lipless crankbait or a topwater walking bait. Good luck!”
