Bartletts Ferry Fishing Report – December 2024
GON Staff | November 28, 2024
Bartletts Ferry: Level: 1.1 feet below 521. Temp: Mid 50s. Clarity: Clear.
Bass: Tournament angler Tyler Morgan, with Summerland Outdoors, said the fishing is tough right now but will get better. Tyler won the Nov. 16 Lazy Man tournament with 8 pounds and had big fish with a 3-lb. spot. “December through February is the best time of year to catch big bass,” Tyler said. “You may not catch a bunch but may land your personal best. Baitfish are the key in December. Bass will be around them in 15 to 20 feet of water. If you are good with FFS, find balls of bait and cast to the bass under them. Halawakee Creek will have more bait than anywhere else on the lake in December. Without FFS, crankbaits on rocks are your best bet. Tie on a ghost/morning dawn Frittside squarebill or a red craw or mule color DT-6, and fish rip-rap or natural rocks. If the water is real clear rather than the normal greenish stain, keep a Vision 110 jerkbait in your hand and work the same rocks, paralleling them. Sunny days are best. Start the morning on rocks, and then move to docks 10 to 12 feet deep. Fish a 3/8-oz. jig under docks near deeper water. Channel swing docks are best. The Buckeye Mini Mop jigs in browns are good. Watch for current in the river and fish the bluff banks near Idlehour if it is moving. Use your same crankbaits, jerkbaits and jigs. No matter how you choose to fish, slow down. You will catch bigger fish in cold water when fishing slower.”
