Hunt Story
I’m beyond blessed to have had the opportunity to harvest my biggest buck to date on 9/29/24! After capturing thousands of trail camera photos throughout the summer, I constantly had to adjust my strategy until I finally pinpointed his core area. He was consistently showing up during the summer, and I had high hopes of harvesting him at the beginning of the season. But the Lord had a greater plan for me. It turned into a bit of a cat-and-mouse game, with very few daylight pictures or encounters after the opening weekend. I hunted as often as the wind allowed, but he kept showing up just before or right after legal shooting light. After six days without a single daylight picture, I noticed a small weather system was pushing through on Sunday evening, and I knew that would get him on his feet. I got into the woods around 4:15 p.m. and saw the first does and young bucks rolling in shortly after, around 4:45. Then, at 5:24, I saw him and the dominant buck in the area making their way toward me. I drew back seven times, but the dominant buck kept pushing him into angles that didn’t offer ethical shots. I prayed for peace and wisdom, trusting God’s timing. And sure enough, at 5:36, he finally gave me a 26-yard broadside shot. I double-lunged him, and he piled up within 50 yards. There’s no denying that God had His hand over me that day, and I was able to close the chapter with “Mr. Clean.”
