Hunt Story
This deer was on our camera an hour before dark the day before. I told Gunner we would need to go after him the next afternoon if he could skip soccer practice. This buck was clearly following a doe and we probably only had a short window of a couple of days to get him before he moved on to another doe. Today November the 8th I washed all our gear and checked Gunner out of school early at 2:30 p.m. We got home and got our gear ready and took off to the woods. We snuck into our stand as quickly and quietly as possible. We had only been in the stand 10 minutes when a doe walked out 50 yards from us. I told Gunner be very still so that we don’t spook this doe. As we are watching her we hear a deep grunt come from the woods. As the doe starts to walk away the huge 8pt walks out. The doe turns and starts walking straight across in front of us with the big buck following her. As the buck gets straight out in front of us I bleated at him and he stopped perfectly broadside. Gunner slowly squeezed off a round from his 243 and it hit him perfectly. The deer only ran a short distance after the shot. It was such a great hunt to share with my son and I was able to capture the entire hunt on video.
