Hunt Story
This successful hunt would not have been possible without 30-30 ministries or the generosity and hospitality of the camp hosts, landowners, and volunteers that provide the services required for a successful camp. The weekend was filled with comradery, great food, inspirational speakers, spiritual blessings, and even a little hunting. The warm, windy weather and full moon had suppressed deer activity on Saturday morning, but the lack of morning and overnight movement had brought expectations of excellent hunting for Saturday afternoon. As anticipated, the p.m. movement started early for some of the campers with a deer being harvested about 3:00. From that point forward anticipation was building and would continue until culmination after watching this buck finally move into position for a shot after seemingly taunting us for thirty plus minutes. There were shot opportunities at does and smaller bucks, but Emmalee was determined to wait this buck out hoping for a better look at him and hopefully a shot opportunity. The opportunity was (finally) presented and she made the most of it with a well placed shot at about 55 yards. Our guide for the hunt, Dr. Scott Westmoreland, was fantastic and was determined for this hunt to be successful (even after sitting in the floor of the stand for thirty plus minutes trying to keep the deer in view). This was our first camp with 30-30 ministries, and we hope that it will not be the last. If you have a kid that is in 6th-12th grade that may enjoy a hunting or fishing camp, I encourage you to look into this faith-based ministry and see if they offer a camp that may be of interest. You are surely to be in fellowship with some of the finest sportsmen and will likely leave the hunt blessed. These are the type of people that help restore a cynical person's faith in humanity.
