Hunt Story
My dad and I were picked for the Piedmont National Wildlife Refuge Quota Hunt (Nov. 7, 8, 9). This season was a little sad, due to our cousin Kenneth Heumaneus passing away this past June, with a brain tumor, who had always requested for us to get a deer for him during our hunts at Piedmont. The hunt started on Thursday morning, and at 8:30 a.m., a doe ran out of a thicket, and came right under my stand. I noticed a small buck closely behind her that I let walk, but then a few seconds later, a nice 8-point appeared and I quickly pulled the trigger on him. The DNR aged the buck at 5 1/2. My dad and I decided to call him the “Kenneth Buck”.
