Hunt Story

On the evening of December 6th, 2021, I walked into an area where I had knowledge a mature mountain buck was living. On a previous scouting mission, I located several scrapes and trails that were coming from an ivy thicket. I also had a great friend who sent me a trail camera picture of a large buck that was on adjacent property. As I walked in, I jumped several does that were already moving in the area. I doubted my evening hunt as I walked up to my tree after scaring the does. I finally talked my into setting the evening out at my tree and that was the best move I have made all season. At approximately 5:15 p.m. I was at my tree after working all day. I sat there thinking to myself that I may have messed the evening hunt up by slipping in there this eve and scaring the does off. I had observed the does run into this thick ivy thicket alongside a steep and rocky mountainside. At approximately 5:20, I observed movement at the bottom of the steep mountainside. I observed a dark-bodied deer crossing the hollow and headed my way. I raised my rifle and thought this may be the does coming back out of the ivys. And then, there he appeared, the largest mountain buck I have encountered In union county was headed my way. I took a good rest and squeezed the trigger. As I calmed down, I observed my largest mountain buck ever was laying 100 yards away. I walked down to the buck and observed the mass and quickly counted 10 points with a sticker on his G2. I thanked the good Lord above for allowing me to harvest the largest deer of my life here in the beautiful north Georgia mountains.
