Hunt Story
I was running late, 4:29 getting in my stand. It was freezing and I almost stayed at home. The wind laid down at 5-5:15 and it got cold and quiet in the bottom where the big oaks grow. As usual I was watching the day come to a peaceful end. The crunch of leaves from a walk iv heard many times before had me looking for what I thought was a big doe walking alone on the creek at 60 yards out. A few minutes later I saw the body of the deer, his head was down but I could see some horns. I don’t know if it was the freezing air or a rush of excitement that hit me and I threw the scope on him right then. He looked like one of Santa’s rain deer in the scope, with no time to waste I put the cross hairs in the heart area Annie took his last step stopped and threw his head back, nose straight up. I squeezed the trigger and made the shoot that took “Hercules” down dead in his tracks. My 9-year-old son names the deer we hunt and this buck lived up to his name.
