Hunt Story
I was set up in my climber at the convergence of a big creek, small creek, and a wet bay with gallberry/wax myrtle. This buck had 20+ large-diameter rubs and several breeding scrapes in the close vicinity of several main trails. I have a trail camera set up on a mock scrape about 80 yards from this location. The buck had shown himself right at the end of legal shooting light making a rub on the camera two days prior to this hunt. I had a feeling as the cold front had just passed through and the temp was falling, he would be on his feet well before dark looking for does and laying down more rubs. He came in and splashed in the creek coming straight toward my tree at 4:15 pm. He kept two very large water oaks in between us blocking a shot until he was at 30 yds. My scope was turned up to ten power, but I was able to adjust for the close shot. He ran about 40 yds and piled up within sight.
