It’s back! The book Georgia’s Greatest Whitetails is returning.
For those of us who remember, it’s hard to believe it’s been almost 35 years since Duncan Dobie’s first-ever book came out in 1986. Sportsmen fell in love with the detailed deer-hunting stories, written to showcase the legendary bucks and the hunters in a style that’s now a mainstay in hunting publications like GON.
The hardback book sold out fairly quickly, and Dobie had plans to reprint, but so many new Boone & Crockett bucks began to show up in Georgia in the late 1980s and early ’90s that he decided against a reprint because the rankings were continually changing.
Demand for the original book never slowed down. Last July at the GON Ag-Pro Outdoor Blast, Duncan had so many requests for the old book that he decided to reprint an exact copy of the book in a softbound edition.
“Production was difficult,” said Duncan. “I had to re-scan all the photos, photoshop them and convert them. That was the easy part. Finding them was the hard part, but I located almost every one after all these 33 years. It was really a fun project going back and working on all the old photos. I just got the books in hand. They look great.”
The new printing of the 476-page book is now available in time for Christmas gifts.
Duncan is a regular contributor to GON, and he’s the author of many books including Dawn of American Deer Hunting, and Arthur Woody and the Legend of the Barefoot Ranger.
