Special Legislative Meeting On Northern Zone Deer Season Proposal

A subcommittee will meet March 4 to discuss bill that could extend the Northern Zone deer season to Jan. 15.

There will be a special subcommittee meeting on HB 402 on Wednesday, March 4, at 3:00 p.m. in Room 216 of the Capitol.

HB 402, introduced by Rep. Martin Scott (R – Rossville), calls for a statewide ending date for deer season. Since no one expects a shorter season for Southern Zone deer hunters, the intent of the bill appears to be to extend the Northern Zone season to Jan. 15. Small-game hunters in north Georgia have come out in opposition to HB 402. However, more than 100 deer hunters attended the WRD Hunting Regulations meeting last month in Dalton to ask for an extended deer season.
