Hurricane Damage Cancels Cumberland Island Hunts

GON Staff | November 1, 2016

The managed hunts for Cumberland Island National Seashore have been cancelled for the October, November and December dates. The cancelled hunts are the Oct. 22-23 Adult-Child gun hunt, and the Nov. 7-9 and Dec. 5-7 primitive-weapons hunts.

“Due to extensive damage from Hurricane Matthew, we do not feel the island’s hunt zone and hunt camp facilities will be up and running,” said Doug Hoffman, wildlife biologist for the island. “All hunters who have registered for our hunts will be notified of the cancellations and their hunt fees refunded.”

The fee for Cumberland Island National Seashore hunts is $35.

“As it stands currently, our two hog-only hunts scheduled for January, 2017 are still on,” Doug said.
