Whether you are playing the odds to try and get drawn for a Georgia quota hunt this season, or you’re planning to bank priority points to utilize sometime in the future, it’s almost time to begin applying for 2024 Georgia quota hunts. The application window opens on June 1.
“Don’t wait until the last minute to get your quota-hunt application in before the correct deadline,” says Tina Johannsen, Assistant Chief of the Game Management Section with the Wildlife Resources Division. “Quota hunts are a great way to experience a high-quality hunt on your favorite Wildlife Management Area or try out a new area you haven’t been to yet.”
The first 2024 deadlines for quota hunts are July 15 for alligator and Aug. 15 for dove. Most WMA deer hunts, including youth hunts, have a Sept. 1 deadline. Check the complete application date periods at GeorgiaWildlife.com/hunting/quota#deadlines.
“Even if you don’t plan to attend a quota hunt this season, consider applying for a priority point that you might use in the future,” said GON Publisher Daryl Kirby. “The process to set up a WRD online account and then apply for quota hunts is very simple. I try to remember to apply for every quota hunt available each year. Now I could draw a gator hunt several years in a row using those priority points, and I can attend the best WMA deer hunts. There is no cost to apply for Georgia quota hunts, so it is a no-brainer to bank priority points.”
According to DNR, a quota hunt is a scheduled event at a Wildlife Management Area or other state-managed property where a limited number of hunters are allowed. Quota levels, such as the number or type of hunters that can participate and the harvest limit, are based upon the sound principles of wildlife management and public desires for a quality hunt. These hunts provide a challenging and rewarding experience to hunters of all levels. Selected hunters must be properly licensed to participate in a quota hunt.
