Board Approves 1991-92 Georgia Hunting Regs

GON Staff | June 3, 1991

The state Board of Natural Resources as its May 23 meeting approved the 1991-92 Hunting Regulations after the public had one last chance to comment on the proposed regs.

Turnout was light for three Game Management Section meetings held the second week of May. Just 16 people showed up at the Marietta meetings to listen in or take a final opportunity to comment on the proposed regs before they went before the Board for approval.

The two most prominent changes in the regs for the 1991-92 season are the increase in the firearms deer bag limit from three to five deer and an increase in the number of doe days in most Piedmont and Coastal Plain counties.

Publication of the popular guide to the hunting regs is an eight-month process. In January, a series of nine meetings were held across the state to gather input for the new regs. Suggestions made at those meetings and herd data and age structure of the 1990-91 harvest were considered in formation of the final regs package.

The regs package now goes to Treasure Chest Co., a national publishing company for printing. Treasure Chest entered the low bid for printing the regs. The 1990-91 regs were printed by the Georgia Wildlife Federation and Georgia Outdoor News.

The popular guide to the hunting regs will be available through about 2,000 license dealers statewide on Aug. 15.
