2022-2023 Truck-Buck Contest Scoring Dates & Details

Contest entrants can bring their unmounted deer rack to the GON office in Madison on Feb. 25, or on March 18 to Tifton at the UGA Tifton Campus Conference Center.

GON Staff | November 28, 2022

To compete for weekly prizes and a spot in the Truck-Buck Shoot-Out, an entrant’s rack must be officially scored during one of two GON scoring events. Any hunter with a buck entered in this season’s contest is invited to have the rack officially scored either in Madison on Feb. 25 or in Tifton on March 18. Racks not entered in the GON contest will not be measured during these events.

On those dates, racks can be dropped off from 9 a.m. until noon. No racks will be accepted after the noon deadline. All racks must be picked up at a time specified the day of the event, likely between 1 to 2:30 p.m. It is impossible to return racks back in any order based on when they were dropped off. Also, we absolutely cannot accommodate special circumstances like a ball game, wedding, etc. and usher a rack through more quickly. Plan on it taking most of the day. Please bring patience! Winners will be required to take polygraph exams this spring at the GON office before competing in the Shoot-Out and earning contest prizes.

No mounted heads or racks with split skull plates can be scored. We will measure velvet racks and European skull mounts.

Entrants are not required to deliver or retrieve their racks in person. However, if the person retrieving the rack is someone other than the entrant, they must show their picture ID and a letter signed by the entrant saying who is picking up the rack. Everyone picking up a rack will be asked to show photo ID.

Directions to the Tifton event: From I-75 take exit 64. Take Hwy 41 north (west of I-75) 0.2 miles, and take the first left on RDC Road. The Conference Center is on the left.

Directions to GON: From I-20 take the Madison/Hwy 441 exit, and go south 6 miles. Turn left at Seven Islands Road. GON is less than 1 mile on the left at 4331 Seven Islands Road, Madison. At the intersection of Bethany Church Road and Seven Islands Road.

Disappointed to see the southern zone/northern zone designations eliminated from the contest. It’s quite a challenge for mountain counties to compete with South Georgia deer. They have a much longer nutritional food base to grow large deer. I would much rather have seen the zone designations changed to the DMU’s of the state. That said, I understand the difficult process for determining weekly winners. I would, however, like to see another wildcard designation recognizing seniors 65 years old and older to be added to the contest. These patriarchs and matriarchs of our sport that are still active in the woods deserve to be recognized. They are the people that have brought us to and are responsible for fostering and nurturing our love for the outdoors. The first buck taken on our club this season was harvested by an 80-year-old gentleman with a crossbow. It was my honor to help him get this animal out of the woods.
