Wilkinson County Drop-Tine Buck Dies In Kaolin Pool

GON Staff | November 1, 1999

Workers at the Burgess Pigment Co. plant in Toddville (near McIntyre) were surprised to find an exceptional buck swimming in one of their kaolin thickening pools on Oct. 14.

The exhaused Wilkinson County buck was lassoed and dragged out of the pond, but when the rope in its antlers was cut, the deer bolted and inadvertently ran back into another pond where the fall reportedly broke its neck.

The tall-tined 11-pointer, which has a 19-inch inside spread, also sports an extremely long, twisting drop tine on the left beam.
