Eagle Swoops In And Kills Wild Turkey

An eagle—it sure looks like a big golden eagle— swooped in on a longbeard gobbler and a hen in Charlton County, and the action was caught on the trail-camera of GON subscriber Andrew Chesser.
“After we got the photos on the trail camera, I sent my brother out to the site, and the eagle had killed the hen in the back, not the gobbler,” Andrew said. “The eagle dragged the hen about 10 yards and picked out all the meat from her. I know it is very rare for golden eagles to be in Charlton County, but they have been spotted here before. My brother’s friend, whose dad is a game warden, sent it to a DNR biologist, and they confirmed it was a golden eagle. I know from the pictures it can look like an immature bald eagle, heck, I thought it was, too.”
According to eBird Observations, there have been several golden eagle sightings reported in the Okefenokee Swamp region of extreme southeast Georgia.
