Dial A Tracking Dog

Over the years, GON’s Dial A Tracking Dog list has helped thousands of Georgia hunters find their deer. This is a great list to print out and post at the hunting camp, and you may also want to program some of these phone numbers into your cell phone. This online list will be updated throughout deer season.

Looking at the map below, the counties in red represent where tracking dog handlers live. So, if you live or hunt in a red county, there’s a tracking-dog handler who lives nearby. Most of the “guys in red” are willing to travel to counties outside their home county.

When you call a dog-handler, keep the following in mind:

• Discuss payment for services before having a handler come out.

• Be sure to get permission to cross property lines if you suspect a deer has gone off your property.

Also, a pretty consistent complaint amongst tracking dog handlers is that some hunters are bad to wait three hours after the shot and after 10 of their buddies have stomped the woods looking for the deer until they decide to call a dog.

Dogs work much better when there’s been less human contamination on the track. Keep that in mind if you’re willing to put down the money on this service.
