Trout Stocked Below Morgan Falls
GON Staff | February 21, 1993
The DNR Fisheries Section has stocked more than 54,000 fingerling rainbow trout below Morgan Falls Dam on the Chattahoochee River.
The stocking marks the first time that rainbows have been stocked in this area of the river. Traditionally, brown trout have been the only species stocked in the Morgan Falls section of the river (and they will continue to be stocked). The Fisheries section expects that both species can be stocked together successfully since the two species eat different things and occupy different habitats. Rainbow trout primarily feed on insects, while small fish are the main item in a brown trout’s diet. Rainbows prefer river areas with swifter currents than brown trout will tolerate.
The rains are expected to grow to catchable size by July. The Chattahoochee below Morgan Falls is open year-round for trout fishing.
