Lake Worth

Lake Worth, also known as Lake Chehaw, is a small reservoir at the confluence of the Flint River, Kinchafoonee Creek and Muckalee Creek. The concrete Flint River Dam was built in 1908 for hydroelectric generation and is owned by Georgia Power today. Lake Chehaw is very riverine and shallow with average depths of 17 feet. In winter, the lake is drawn down nearly 10 feet in anticipation of flooding spring rains. In the Flood of 1994, the lake overflowed its banks and the dam itself was underwater at one point.

Boatright’s Pond, pond No. 12 in the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Small Georgia Lakes Open to Public Fishing guide, was little more to me than one of the 169 listings in the guide. It was just another place to wet a hook until I started talking about fishing with Neil Jones of Blackshear. Neil…

Seminole Hard-Bottom Spawning Bass

In south Georgia, the month of March can take on many different faces. One day shows signs of beautiful, spring-like weather. The next day, you will swear we are still in the firm grasp of “Old Man Winter.” All things considered, one thing is for sure: March is a month of change. The days are…

Poling And Trolling For Jackson Crappie

You have spent time outdoors and you know that the best-laid plans can sometimes go to waste. Mother Nature unleashes a downpour, or Old Man Winter puts fishing on the deep freeze. And sometimes, the outboard gremlin can put a kink in your ability to get to your favorite fishing hole. Such was the case…
