Lake Worth

Lake Worth, also known as Lake Chehaw, is a small reservoir at the confluence of the Flint River, Kinchafoonee Creek and Muckalee Creek. The concrete Flint River Dam was built in 1908 for hydroelectric generation and is owned by Georgia Power today. Lake Chehaw is very riverine and shallow with average depths of 17 feet. In winter, the lake is drawn down nearly 10 feet in anticipation of flooding spring rains. In the Flood of 1994, the lake overflowed its banks and the dam itself was underwater at one point.

Trout Fly of the Month – October

Explosive strikes are what you have to look forward to when fishing a Wooly Bugger. My favorite style of fishing streamers is to cast downstream and at an angle toward the bank. This sets your fly up for what I call a “dead-and-dodging” retrieve – by quickly stripping in the line you are essentially imitating…

Minnows Early, Jigs Late Catch Sinclair Transition Crappie

October is a fantastic time to fish for crappie on a Georgia reservoir for several reasons. With the ranks of fishermen thinned by the call of deer stands, and with the last of the skiers and summer pleasure boaters gone for the season, a die-hard crappie angler will find plenty of uncontested water waiting for…

From Blackshear To Chehaw, October’s Fun Fishing On The Flint River

I love rivers. I always have. For some reason, I am strangely drawn to them. There is something peaceful yet exciting about a river’s ever-moving waters. From deep, slow-moving pools to shallow, fast-flowing riffles, each river has its own characteristics that make it unique and special. Unlike reservoirs, rivers are usually not very crowded. In…

Fly Fishing For Tailing Reds On The Flats

For the avid angler, the idea of sight fishing for big fish in shallow water brings up the heart rate and raises a few goose pimples on the flesh. Watching a fish approach and inhale a well-placed bait will weaken the knees of even the most experienced of us. Saltwater fly fishermen travel the world…

Trip To Shark Alley

In September, shark fishing is at its peak in the inlets and sounds along the Georgia coast. This peak is just what some anglers await each year. We went after “Jaws” in August, hoping to find more of what had recently been a big-fish bite along the coast. Capt. David Newlin took us out of…
