Rabun Lake Records

Lake Rabun

Lake Rabun is a twisty 835-acre reservoir with 25 miles of shoreline located in the northeast corner of Georgia in Rabun County. It is the third lake in a six-lake series that follows the original course of the Tallulah River. The series begins with Lake Burton as the northernmost lake, followed by lakes Seed, Rabun, Tallulah Falls, Tugalo and Yonah. These are Georgia Power Co. lakes, built to generate hydroelectric energy. Rabun and these other northeast Georgia mountain lakes offers some fishing opportunities unique to Georgia, where anglers can catch trophy walleye and yellow perch along with traditional species such as bass, crappie and bream.

Lake Rabun Fishing Report December 2011

By GON Staff | November 23, 2011

Rabun: Level: Full pool. Temp: 54 degrees. Clarity: Clear. Largemouths: Very good. Tyler Clore, with Georgia Lake Fishing, reports, “The big fish are staying in 15 to 20 feet of water in heavy brush. We’re catching these fish on herring-colored jerkbaits and swimbaits fished very slowly. We are also catching fish on a white, mid-running crankbait. Crank the bait slowly, and be ready for the bait to get hammered at any time. I’ve had strikes as soon as the bait hit the water at the shoreline and when the bait is almost at the boat.” Spotted Bass: Good. Tyler reports, “The spotted bass have been up schooling. We have been catching them on a pearl/white fluke and a jerkbait. A pattern that’s working really well right now is throwing a Carolina rig with a green-pumpkinseed Trick Worm on the long points near the mid and south.” Walleye: Good. Capt. Wes…
