Lake Blue Ridge

Lake Blue Ridge is a 3,300-acre TVA reservoir located in Fannin County, in the northern portion of Georgia. The lake is fed primarily by the Toccoa River. Blue Ridge was created by the completion of Blue Ridge Dam in 1930. The lake level fluctuates by about 20 feet from winter drawdown to full pool in a typical year. The Toccoa tailrace below Blue Ridge offers very good trout fishing, although much of the riverbank is private in this stretch.

By GON Staff | May 28, 2025

Blue Ridge: Level: 1.5 foot above 1686. Temp: 75-77 degrees. Clarity: Clear. Bass: Eric Welch, of Welch’s Guide Service, reports, “Fishing is good. Summertime fishing is upon us. We’re starting to see fish breaking in the mornings and also starting to see bait being chased throughout the day. I’ve been starting my mornings out throwing a Whopper Plopper, Pop-R and a Zoom Fluke on main-lake points, humps and around any brush. We have also been catching fish around docks on a Fluke. Once I’m done throwing topwater the first couple of hours, I will switch over to throwing a shaky head and a drop shot around docks. I will start working on points that have brushpiles and stumps. I will also start fishing the deep, rocky banks and work my way upriver, fishing all the banks that the river swings against. It’s also good to target the finger pockets going up the…

Blue Ridge Smallmouth And Spotted Bass Busting On Top

Good, consistent smallmouth bass action is one of Lake Blue Ridge’s claims to fame, and, despite the introduction of spotted bass to the lake in the early 1990s, the smallies have held on well. Luckily for bass fishermen, this month should provide some of the hottest topwater action of the year during the dawn…
