Oconee Bass Report: March 4, 2025

Chris Gray | March 4, 2025

Jr. Chavis and Dana Holder had first place with 16.20 pounds at a Lake Oconee bass tournament over the weekend.

Oconee: Level: 0.3 feet below 435. Temp: 54-58 degrees. Clarity: Muddy up the lake, cleaner when you get down to the Long Shoals area.

On March 1, 2025 we had our Second String Anglers club tournament at Lake Oconee. The water temperature started around 54 degrees and warmed up to 58 by the end of the day. We put in at Sugar Creek Marina, and the water was as muddy as I’ve ever seen it on that end of the lake. The muddy water stopped around Long Shoals and transitioned to a light stain.

We fished in Richland Creek all day long. We caught a few fish early on points using a Spro RkCrawler crankbait in crawfish patterns. The bite was really good early on, and we had four keepers by 9:30. We also caught fish on docks with shaky-head worms. Most of the docks we caught fish on were on the deeper side, somewhere around 10 and 15 feet at the ends of the docks.

The bite slowed until about 1 p.m. when we were able to put several quality fish in the boat before running back to Sugar Creek. We ended up with a little over 12 pounds, and it was good enough for third place. The winners had a little over 16 pounds and caught their fish on ChatterBaits. Second place had a little over 14 pounds, and they caught their fish on a Neko rig under walkways of docks where it meets the seawall. Fish should be spawning soon!

David Martin and Michael May placed second with 14.43 pounds.
