Oconee Bass Fishing Report – July 24, 2024

Ronnie Garrison | July 24, 2024

Fishing at Oconee is tough right now. Ronnie Garrison finished third in a club tournament on Oconee with just 3.72 pounds.

Oconee: Level: Full at 435. Temp: 85-87 degrees. Clarity: Slight stain.
Bass: Tournament angler and outdoor writer Ronnie Garrison reports, “A couple of members of the Spalding County Sportsman Club figured out a decent bite Sunday, July 21 at Oconee. The 13 members of the club landed only 20 keepers weighing about 41 pounds after fishing from 6 a.m. until 2 p.m. There were two, five-bass limits and three people did not land a fish.
Raymond English had a good day, landing five weighing 13.75 pounds and had a 4.74-pounder for big fish. He said he found some bream beds and landed the big one and another 4-pounder on a Horny Toad.
Niles Murray had five weighing 10.68 pounds for second. He said he caught about nine keepers on Trick Worms around docks.
After that, it dropped way down to my two weighing 3.72 pounds for third. I kept pounding the water willow thinking that was the way to go and landed enough 13.5-inch fish to keep me interested all day.
One of my keepers hit a Trick Worm before 8 a.m., the other a jig flipped into grass holes around 11 a.m. I should have tried docks sooner. I lost a 3-pounder that hit a wacky-rigged Senko under a dock with 15 minutes left to fish. I was disgusted seeing it jump and throw my bait as I reached for it with the net. As it turned out, it would not have mattered.
Kwong Yu had one weighing 3.47 pounds for fourth. He said it hit a jig.
