Lake Russell Fishing Report – May 2024

GON Staff | May 2, 2024

Russell: Level: Full at 475. Temp: 68-73 degrees. Clarity: Clear.

Bass: Tournament angler Kerry Partain reports, “The fishing has been good and should continue to get better as more bass are finishing the spawn and starting to feed back up. The majority of the bass we are catching are relating to the shad and herring spawns around points, humps and shoals. There has been a little bit of schooling activity in these areas, so I like to start out with a topwater and a Zoom Super Fluke to catch them during the early morning flurry. Depending on the weather, this bite could last all day, but if not, I slow down with a small swimbait, spinnerbait or a shaky head if it gets real tough.  As we get further into May, some of the bass will begin moving out a little deeper, and I will start targeting brush or timber near the main lake with a drop shot or Texas-rigged Zoom Mag II worm.”
