Lake Oconee Fishing Report – September 2009

GON Staff | August 25, 2009

Oconee: Level: Full pool. Temp: 85-89 degrees. Clarity: Mostly clear.

Bass:
Fair. “This year there have been a large number of fish that have stayed in less than 5 feet of water,” said guide Al Bassett. “Fish shallow docks near deep water with a Spot Remover jig with a Zoom Finesse worm in watermelon or watermelon candy. Dip your bait in JJ’s Magic. The bite has been very light, so be a line watcher. As the month moves on, the fish will follow the shad to the backs of the coves. By the end of the month, look for the fish to be holding on the small secondary points in the pockets or coves around the lake. Fish a Carolina-rigged worm or a crankbait. It’s hard to beat a Rat-L-Trap fished with a stop-and-go retrieve.”
