Lake Oconee Fishing Report – March 2007

GON Staff | February 27, 2007

Oconee: Level: Full pool. Temp: 49-50 degrees. Clarity: Stained except south near the dam and Richland Creek.

Bass: Tough. Most of the bass are still deep, or they’re in between deep and shallow. There was a good bite at 20 to 30 feet deep on jigging spoons and jig-head finesse worms, but warmer weather means time to focus shallow. “They’re going to get on a spinnerbait and small crankbait. Fish the docks, blowdowns, and brushpiles — any kind of trash,” said tournament angler Joe Chandler. Another tournament pro, Eric Perkins, said the bass are right on the verge. Eric had Big Fish in a tournament last weekend, a 6.48-pounder. “We had two jig bites and two spinnerbait bites,” Eric said. “Things will really change this week.”
