Lake Oconee Fishing Report – January 2006

GON Staff | January 1, 2006

Oconee: Level: Full pool. Temp: 49 to 50 degrees. Clarity: Stained in the main river run throughout the lake, Richland is mostly clear.

Bass: The fishing has ranged from fair to excellent, depending on the day. A lot of good bass were caught shallow in the past two weeks. Running the docks posts with a crankbait has been a good pattern — dig it down, then slow-roll it and bounce it off the dock posts. A 1/4-oz. Rat-L-Trap is also a good choice, and it is better for numbers right now. If you’re not finding any shad up shallow, move out and use your electronics to try and find big schools of bait on the main lake. The mouths of the major creeks are good locations to try, and also the deeper, main-lake flats. When you find a big school of bait, use a jigging spoon or a drop-shot rig.
