Lake Oconee Bass Fishing Report – March 19, 2024

Ronnie Garrison | March 19, 2024

Lake Oconee Bass Fishing Report: Lake Level – Full pool. Clarity – Heavy stain. Surface Temperature – 61–66 degrees.

Bass seem to be staging for the spawn. Michael Bennett has won small local tournaments the last two weekends on the same pattern—squarebill crankbaits in less than 4 feet of water. Numbers have been great, but Michael said the bass were not huge—one limit weighed 10.5, the other 11.7 pounds. Big fish in both tournaments was about 3.5 pounds.

Michael reported catching 24 bass Sunday two weeks ago and 32 this past weekend in the one-day tournament. He was casting squarebills to seawalls between docks, mostly in Richland Creek. Most of the bites came from the seawall to the front edge of the dock in less than 4 feet of water.

“Still no big ones up shallow that I can find, but it will be soon,” Michael said. “Water temp was 61 in the a.m. and 65-66 at 3 p.m. All fish caught were still pale, so they are just now making their way shallow. The fish have made their way farther back, as most came from last half of pockets and small creek arms along Richland.”
