Lake Nottely Fishing Report – May 2010

GON Staff | April 27, 2010

Nottely: Level: 3.9 feet below full pool. Temp: 64-70 degrees. Clarity: Clear.

Stripers: Josh Garrison reports, “With the constantly changing water temps this spring, the striper run never really took hold with any frequency. There were several large fish caught in the river but with no regularity. As the waters continue to warm, look for the fish on the main body of the lake from Point 7 downstream. The fish should be moving into the backs of the main creeks in the mornings and back out toward the mouths during the days. Pulling planer boards with bluebacks and gizzards along the red-clay banks and points will produce good catches of fish, but don’t be afraid to target deeper fish with light downlines if you are marking fish under the boat. All of the small bait seems to have died off with the bitter cold winter, so the fish should have to work harder to catch the larger bait. Look for stripers driving them to the surface early in the mornings, late in the evenings and on cloudy days. The variety of water temps throughout the lake means the stripers will be moving. If you aren’t finding fish pretty quick, it’s time to find another spot. The bait will be looking for the warm water while the stripes will start looking for cooler waters. Finding the cool water with warm water nearby will find the best fish up until the heat of the summer really kicks in.”
