Lake Nottely Fishing Report – April 2023

GON Staff | March 29, 2023

Nottely: Level: 9.7 feet below 1775. Temp: 56-61 degrees. Clarity: There is a mid-lake stain, but the main lake is clear. There’s lots trash in the lake from when the water came up.

Stripers: Guide Jeremy Seabolt, of Lake Nottely Fishing Charter, reports, “The fish are starting to fire up. We have been catching some nice fish the last few weeks. Fish are getting in the creeks and feeding in both deep and shallow water. We have been catching most of our fish on large herring on boards and freelines. If you are looking to catch good numbers of small fish, then you need to downsize the bait to small herring or bass minnows. If you’re going to catch that trophy fish, you need to be pulling big baits, and we are stocked up with large shad and herring. We are seeing some good topwater bites the first few hours of the morning. We have been catching fish on small bucktails and small flukes and freelining herring. Going into April, we will be pulling shad and herring hard. Look for the fish to pull up shallow on points and humps. April is also the month to be pitching herring and also the time to work a Red Fin slowly on a sunny bank. We also like throwing large swimbaits this time of year, but your best bet is going to be fishing large herring. Don’t forget The Bait Shack on Nottely is your No. 1 place to get all your herring on the lake. They are stocked up with herring for all your fishing needs.”
