Lake Hartwell Fishing Report – September 2017

GON Staff | August 30, 2017

Hartwell: Level: 7.7 feet low. Temp: Mid 80s. Clarity: Clear.

Bass: Tournament angler Kerry Partain reports, “The Hartwell bass fishing is extremely tough right now and has been for a couple of weeks. There are a lot of fish in 20 to 25 feet, but getting them to bite has been a challenge. Hopefully some rain and cooler temperatures will shake things up a little and get the fish active. There has been very little schooling activity except for hybrids and stripers. As we head into September, the fishing typically gets a little better, and the bass begin to move into the creeks and shallower cover. There is usually more schooling toward the end of September, but the type of baitfish they are eating really dictates what lures to throw. Most the time in the fall, the bass are feeding up on smaller threadfin shad, so smaller baits tend to work better.”
