Lake Hartwell Fishing Report – August 2024

GON Staff | August 1, 2024

Hartwell: Level: 2.8 feet below 660. Temp: 86 degrees. Clarity: Clear.

Bass & Stripers: Trent Gober with Fish Hartwell Guide Service said the fishing is a little tough right now. “Your best bite is in brushpiles 20 to 30 feet deep dropping a green-pumpkin finesse worm on a shaky head or drop-shot rig. If you can get on the water when they are generating, it is a big help,” Trent said. “The afternoon bite has been much better than the morning due to water movement. Some fish will still come up to eat a topwater bait in the afternoon, but the bite is better down around 25 feet. The bait has moved offshore and is in that 20- to 30-foot-deep level. With FFS, you will see lots of bass following your bait over standing timber. Some are stripers, but many are bass. Trolling a 1.5-oz. Chipmunk Jig on lead-core line is a very effective way to catch some nice stripers. This striper bite will be good all the way through September until the water starts cooling down. It’s the dog days of summer, so plan your trips when the corps is moving water, and you can still catch some nice fish, both stripers and black bass.”
