Lake Hartwell Fishing Report April 2013

GON Staff | March 27, 2013

Hartwell: Level: 4 feet below full pool. Temp: Low 50s. Clarity: Main lake is clear; creeks are stained and rivers are muddy.

Stripers: Guide Preston Harden reports, “Stripers, hybrids and bass are all active and feeding in shallow water. The bite has been better in the afternoons as the water warms. The major creeks up the lake are all holding fish. It has been a cold spring so far, but forecasts are for much warmer temp. Early April will be an extension of the March pattern. Throw small shad imitations close to the bank on the wind-blown points and pockets. By mid April, the morning will be as good as the afternoon. The fish will become more aggressive and eat herring when they see them. They will also eat a larger artificial bait. Also, by mid April, the main lake will turn on. Pulling freelined hearing near main points and shoals early in the morning will get lots of fish.”
