Lake Eufaula Fishing Report – September 2018

GON Staff | September 4, 2018

Eufaula: Level: 0.4 feet below 190 full pool. Temp: Upper 80s. Clarity: Light stain.

Bass: Guide Sam Williams reports, “Early morning and late afternoon are the best times to fish due to the heat. Keep plenty of drinking water on the boat to keep hydrated. For the shallow bite, there are still bass holding near and under pad cover. Baitfish are plentiful, but the bass most days need to be finessed to bite. Frogs, spinners and poppers work well. Plastics along the edges of this cover are catching fish, as well. Patience is the key to putting fish in the livewell. We need to be enjoying some of the smaller bass on the table. We must work on lowering the population for a while, so the fish can grow larger. Please look into the Swab-A-Hog program, and help us gain the data we need to begin stocking. It is working in some Alabama lakes. The Swab-A-Hog program helps Auburn University and DCNR collect genetic DNA samples for research from largemouth bass 4 pounds and larger. DNA is collected via swabbing the tongue of the bass prior to release. Anglers are given incentives to help thanks to a generous rewards program made possible by local sponsors. It will help our fishery as well as the local economy.”
