Lake Eufaula Fishing Report – March 2022

GON Staff | February 24, 2022

Eufaula: Level: 0.5 feet below 190. Temp: Low 50s. Clarity: Muddy.

Bass: Capt. Sam Williams reports, “The winter weather patterns and storms have kept the water very muddy from mid river to the north. With the different vegetation and sand down south, it clears up a little faster. On the north end, you can track a deer where it crosses the river it has been so bad. The bass are holding near rip-rap that is holding heat when the sun shines. They are moving to deeper structure where the water is warmer and they find cleaner water for oxygen. ChatterBaits with trailers soaked in JJ’S Magic are getting hits. The smell from JJ’s attractor travels and causes a trail in the dense, dirty water, causing the bass to react. Where you find shallow cover later in the day, as the water warms up, slow presentations with jigs and soft plastic worms will get a strike. Always keep an eye out for shad action and birds feeding. If you find shad working offshore, keep a topwater bait working. If you are in a buddy tournament, have one work a lipless crank deeper in the school while the topwater angler keeps the action working. The larger bass are holding under the smaller fish eating the injured shad they hit and miss.”

Crappie: Capt. Sam Williams reports, “The crappie are basically in a holding pattern in this muddy water. There are a few being caught in deeper structure. The night fishermen are doing a little better as the lights are creating a situation where the crappie can see the minnows above them. Some jug fishermen are getting catfish in the mouth of the creeks with cutbait.”
