Lake Eufaula Fishing Report March 2011

GON Staff | February 23, 2011

Eufaula: Level: Full pool. Temp: High 40s to low 50s. Clarity: Muddy.

Bass: Poor, but look for a quick turn around with warmer temperatures. Sam Williams reports, “Bass fishing has been very tough to say the least. The cold, muddy water has them all over the place. Slow, slow presentations have been the trick to get any kind of a strike. Try jigs rigged with a Senko trailer worked around any structure, or try slow cranking a big-lipped lure. A small worm on a shaky head worked very slowly might get a few finesse bites. Redbug and gold have been good soft-plastic color choices.”

Crappie: Slow. “Crappie are very deep and not biting as expected due to the muddy water,” Sam said. “When the water temperature comes up another 8 degrees or so, and the water clears up, we will see increased action. The fish being taken now are very deep.”

Catfish: Good. “Catfish are still doing well. They love the muddy conditions,” Sam said. “A good smelly bait is doing the trick. The odor carries in the muddy water and draws their attention.”

Note: Be sure and check the <www.leekingbenefit.org> website for info about the benefit bass tournament. “We are getting close to filling the first flight of 30 teams for the June 11, 2011 event,” Sam said.
