Lake Eufaula Fishing Report – January 2025

GON Staff | December 25, 2024

Eufaula: Level: 1.5 feet above 188. Temp: 58 degrees. Clarity: Heavy stain.

Bass: Capt. Sam Williams, with Hawks Fishing Guide Service, reports, “The lake is holding steady, even after an additional 8-plus inches last week. The temperature swings are giving our fish a fit. We have experienced nights in the mid 20s and afternoons in the 70s. The afternoon shallow bite is working with creature baits and Texas-rigged finesse worms worked very slow. The rip-rap along the causeways and railroad trestles are holding daytime heat and fish. Deeper fish, staged on structure, are also needing to be aggravated into a strike. Jigs, tipped with creature baits, worked vertically among them will work or a big soft plastic on a Carolina rig will cause some action. Darker worms with a colored tail is a good bet. Dip all your plastics in J.J’s Magic in this dirty water. It does make a big difference. Keep you eyes on the bird action because there are fish feeding under them. Work a shallow twitch bait through these areas.”

Multiple Species: Capt. Sam Williams, with Hawks Fishing Guide Service, reports, “Crappie are still suspended on structure in 10 to 20 feet. Minnow-tipped jigs are a good choice. The cold water have the panfish slowed down. Wigglers placed around blowdowns on the banklines will get a few for the supper table. Catfish are working after the sun gets up. Cutbait on jugs are getting bit. With these high winds, you need to set up deep in the creeks so you can keep the jigs corralled up. Bottom fishermen using crawlers or cutbait are also getting some tablefare. Remember to pray for all our folks in uniform and their families as they go out to protect us daily. Love one another as God commands us. If we have His kind of love in our hearts for one another, this hate and unnecessary killing can go away. Pray for God to help America and that He continues to bless us daily. We need His help. Enjoy this Happy New Year and take a youngster outdoors for some great activities in God’s great creation. The memories will last a lifetime.”
