Lake Eufaula Fishing Report – February 2019

GON Staff | January 25, 2019

Eufaula:  Level: 1.5 feet below 190 full pool. Temp: 48-55 degrees. Clarity: Stained.

Bass:Tournament anglers and guides Cole Burdeshaw and Peyton McCord, of Southeast Alabama Fishing Guides, report, “Bass fishing on Lake Eufaula in February can be really good if you get in the right situation. We typically have a few warming trends throughout this month. After a few warm days and the water temp rises into the mid 50s, big females will come up shallow all over the lake. Fish spinnerbaits and ChatterBaits in the shallow grass, and use jigs and crankbaits when you are fishing around docks. Be on the lookout for beds if the water temp gets close to 60. When one of those nasty cold fronts hit, look offshore with your electronics for fish holding on structure change and cover. Use crankbaits, Carolina rigs and jigs to get a few bites. Cold fronts can also push fish under thick mats of vegetation. Use a dark-colored Big Bite Baits Yomama with a pegged 1.5-oz. weight to punch through these mats and get a few big bites. February can be one of the best months to catch a giant on Eufaula!” Guide Sam Williams reports, “The water is dropping and finally getting colder. Moving water with noisy baits are doing good. Soft plastics around shore cover are working, as well. Rocks and rip-rap will keep water warmer and will be ideal for morning bites. Buzzbaits and ChatterBaits around the old pad fields are good—keep an eye out for shad working the surface. Lipless crankbaits under these schools will get the bigger fish. Work baits slower in colder water.”
