Lake Eufaula Fishing Report February 2012

GON Staff | February 1, 2012

Eufaula: Level: 1.6 feet below full pool. Temp: Mid 50s. Clarity: Good stain.

Bass: Good. Sam Williams said good creels are there for the serious fisherman willing to tough out the cold mornings. “Dress warm and in layers so you can shed clothes as the morning warms up. With deer season in full swing on the Alabama side (Georgia closed Jan. 15), the lake is wide open to the serious fisherman,” Sam said. “Bass are getting more healthy, the sores are gone, and the fish are growing. Bass are hitting jigs and Texas rigs. Greens are a good choice as is purple. Lipless and lipped cranks are doing the trick. Trolling these fairly fast on top of ledge drops is producing, and you never know what you are going to reel in. We are catching bass, crappie, hybrids and even catfish as we come up the drops. Bouncing spinnerbaits works, also.”

Crappie: Sam said the crappie are up and biting well on trolling rigs in the morning after the sun gets up high, and the bite continues through the mid afternoon to evening.

Catfish:
Good. “Cats are still biting,” Sam said. “If you troll a lipless bait close to the bottom early to mid morning, the cats will nail it. Or, find some trash or bottom cover, throw out the anchor, and let some catfish bait sit on the bottom. Take along a good book to read, that will always bring on a bite.”
