Lake Eufaula Fishing Report – August 2021

GON Staff | July 28, 2021

Eufaula: Level: 0.7 feet below 190 full pool. Temp: Upper 80s. Clarity: Light to moderate stain.

Bass: Look for bass on high spots and main-river ledges from the causeway down to White Oak Creek. This is a crankbait bite that depends on current from water being pulled at the dam. When they’re not moving water, brushpiles in 12 to 14 feet of water are your best bet. The best brush needs to be near deeper water. Fish a Texas rig as slow as you can with as light a weight and as light a line as you can get by with. Guide Sam Williams reports, “The river is finally back up to normal summer pool, and with the predictions of rains, it promises to stay this way. The shallow bite is good again as the baitfish are in the grass now. The bass are in the patchy cover just offshore. Work your bait behind or deep into the cover, let it settle for a minute, and begin the retrieve. When you reach an opening or the outside edge, let it drop again and slowly bring it back. They are still short striking a lot, so expect some misses. Throw another bait or a different colored plastic in the same spot, she is liable to hit again. Unweighted flukes and Senkos and doing well. A buddy has been doing great on white flukes with chartreuse tails. ChatterBaits and spinnerbaits are good, also. The frog bite is on early and late on pads and broken cover. Deeper bass are scattered on ledge cover and man-made structure. Carolina rigs are good when worked slowly in these areas.”

Hybrids: When there is some current, some nice hybrids are being caught trolling main-lake ledges. Pull a Mann’s 15 or 20 crankbait or an umbrella rig with small swimbaits.

Crappie: The crappie are stacked up on brushpiles in 15 to 20 feet of water, but they aren’t biting very well. You can catch one or two out of a brushpile, and then move on to the next one. Anglers have been catching some crappie at night downlining minnows in 18 to 20 feet of water on ledges that drop off into very deep water.
