Lake Eufaula Fishing Report – August 2018

GON Staff | August 1, 2018

Eufaula: Level: 0.4 feet below 190 full pool. Temp: Upper 80s to low 90s. Clarity: Light stain.

Bass: Tournament angler and lure manufacturer Jack Tibbs says you can catch Eufaula bass both shallow and deep in August. “There’s always some quality bass feeding in shallow water in August,” Jack said. The thick grassbed and lily pad cover offers shade and food that keeps plenty of bass shallow even during the hottest part of the summer. To find active shallow bass in August, Jack recommends a Strikezone Lures Pro Series Popp’n frog, a 3/8-oz. Master Blaster spinnerbait and a Swimtastic swim jig. He will be ready to slow down and punch the mats of primrose with a BoogBug creature bait behind a 1 1/4- to 1 1/2-oz. tungsten weight. Eufaula is famous for its summer ledge fishing. For deep ledges, Jack throws a Ledgebuster spinnerbait, a 1/2- to 3/4-oz. Perfect football jig, a custom-painted Strikezone Lures Deep Daddy Toxic crankbait and a Texas- or Carolina-rigged Mega Worm. For a full feature on Eufaula summer bass with 10 GPS locations marked by Jack, see the article on page 16. Guide Sam Williams reports, “The baitfish and bass are holding under the cover. The frog bite is holding well up into the day. Shallow cranks along the grass and pad edges are a good choice when the frog bite slows down. Spinnerbaits and buzzbaits work, also. Carolina-rigged big soft plastics and deep crankbaits are working on the deep cover.”
